007 First Light Gameplay Showcased During State of Play, Release Date announced

2 Mins read

Danish video game developer IO Interactive revealed its most recent game, 007 First Light, during the State of Play broadcast by Sony on September 3. The developer had taken the player on a tour of the game by demonstrating the gameplay.

The game itself was also unveiled at the event, along with the release date of 007 First Light on PC, PS5, Xbox Series S and X and Nintendo Switch 2 on March 27, 2026. The game can also be pre-ordered.

007 First Light at State of Play: Info

The release of the gameplay by IO Interactive made it clear that, unlike the older versions of James Bond, the game makes the players act as young Bond. As shown in the gameplay demonstration, the game was set in a rich estate environment, with the players able to mix in an expensive party, eavesdrop on people to find hints, and drive around in fancy cars. The gameplay was very reminiscent of the Hitman series that the studio has made, but with a James Bond twist.

In a post on PlayStation Blog, IO Interactive referred to 007 First Light as an open-ended experience, allowing the player to approach the game missions in different ways, just like its Hitman franchise. The studio calls the design the creative approach, wherein the spycraft, instincts, devices and fighting ability of Bond can be applied to accomplish goals. The game will also have a number of driving sections in addition to the stealth-action missions.

IO Interactive wrote: “We showcased footage from two missions that highlight the game’s immersive design and cinematic flair. From a covert operation at a high-stakes chess tournament in Slovakia, closing with a high altitude showdown, to an infiltration of a lavish gala in Kensington, London, these missions offer a glimpse into the living and breathing worlds that Bond will navigate as he discovers the world of espionage.

Action scenes were also present in the showcase, such as a gunfight at an airstrip, and a fight on top of an aircraft that was taking off, reminiscent of Mission Impossible. At another point, Bond jumps off the plane without a parachute, which can be compared to Uncharted 3.

007 First Light: Cast

  • Priyanga Burford as M
  • Alastair Mackensize as A
  • Kiera Lester as Miss Moneypenny
  • Lennie James as Bond’s mentor, John Greenway

Meanwhile, the 007 First Light- Legacy Edition will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC at 299.99/ EUR299,99/ PS259.99. It contains the entire game, the Deluxe Edition content, a special Golden Gun weapon skin, the Obsidian Gold Suit outfit, a Golden Gun Figurine with Stand and Secret Compartment, a Certificate of Authenticity, and a Steel Case with Magnet.
