Prince Harry Breaks His Silence Again as Duke Speaks Out on Global Issues

2 Mins read

In a move that will further drive a wedge between him and royal critics and commentators, Prince Harry has again made himself known in the public sphere on matters he feels strongly about.

In recent years, the Duke of Sussex has been vocal about the importance of addressing rising antisemitism and the humanitarian crisis associated with the Middle East conflict, stating that inaction is no longer an option as tensions in the world continue to grow. In a recent opinion piece and public remarks, Harry argued that at times of injustice or division, people must not “stand by and do nothing.

The intervention is the latest in Harry’s growing vocal campaigning since he and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped back from official royal duties in 2020. Harry, unlike senior working royals who prefer not to comment on politics or controversial issues, has been increasingly giving his opinion on international issues at public forums, especially humanitarian and social issues.

Close sources to Harry believe he is no longer willing to “take no part” in issues of discrimination, conflict and human suffering, ITV royal coverage has revealed. It is said that the Duke feels that he has a perspective which he has acquired through his travels and charitable work that he should share with the public and not hide.

But his latest remarks have stoked controversy within royal and political circles. But critics say Harry could be crossing ground that is sacred to the members of the Royal Family, particularly when it comes to speaking on sensitive matters at a global level. There have been some doubts from certain sources that the Duke, who lives in California and doesn’t do official royal business anymore, should still be invited to use his platform for controversial issues.

Backers, however, say that Harry is entitled to voice his views as a private citizen. They demonstrate his extensive experience in the areas of military veterans, mental health charities and humanitarian organisations and his use of public awareness to bring these issues to the forefront.

The new comments come as the feud between Harry and some members of the Royal Family remains unresolved. The Duke and his brother, Prince William, have been alleged to have had strained relationships many times before, and after years of public disagreements, it seems that the possibility of a reconciliation is further away after Harry’s memoir Spare.

But come the criticism, Harry seems determined to remain vocal. In recent public appearances, he has said he feels it is no longer appropriate for him to remain silent, especially when there are humanitarian issues involved.

The message for many royal watchers is growing clear: Prince Harry is about to create a path for himself that is very much unroyal — a path that has him speaking his mind, often at odds with the point of view of others.
