Bonnie Tyler Out of Coma but “Very Unwell” After Emergency Surgery

2 Mins read

Famous Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler has emerged from a medically induced coma but remains “very unwell” in intensive care following emergency intestinal surgery. The update came on Monday, June 15, 2026, bringing cautious hope to fans across the UK while confirming her condition is still critical.

Tyler 75 was rushed to a hospital in Faro, Portugal, in early May after developing severe abdominal pain. Doctors performed urgent intestinal surgery on her, which was completed. To help her recover, her medical team placed her in an induced coma. This decision was announced on May 7, 2026, sparking concern among music lovers worldwide.

For over a month, Tyler remained unconscious as doctors monitored her progress closely. On Tuesday, May 12, her spokesman said she was “seriously ill but stable” in the Faro hospital. Her family also asked for privacy, criticising “lurid and untrue rumours” spreading about her health.

Now, one month after surgery, Tyler is awake and no longer in a coma. However, her spokesperson confirmed she is still “very unwell” and receiving intensive care in Portugal. Her health is gradually improving, but the recovery process is slow. Medical professionals remain optimistic she will make a full recovery, though it will require time.

The singer’s upcoming summer tour has been cancelled or postponed due to her condition. There is still hope that some autumn performances may proceed if she strengthens enough. Tyler, best known for her iconic 1983 hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” has enjoyed a legendary career spanning decades. The song remains a staple on UK radio and continues to resonate with generations of listeners.

Fans in the UK have expressed deep concern and support through social media. Many remember her powerful voice and emotional performances that defined an era of rock music. Her Welsh roots also make her a beloved figure in British culture.

Doctors say her health is improving gradually, but cautioned that progress remains slow. The medical team is confident in her full recovery, but emphasised that patience is essential now. Tyler’s representatives thanked the public for their kindness and reiterated the family’s request for dignity during this difficult time.

As the UK music community rallies around her, fans continue sending messages of hope. Bonnie Tyler’s legacy as one of Britain’s greatest vocalists remains intact, and many believe she will return to the stage when her health allows.

For now, the focus remains on her steady recovery in Portugal. The entire nation hopes the “Total Eclipse of the Heart” star will regain her strength and grace again soon.
