Brandon Blackstock, the ex-husband of pop powerhouse Kelly Clarkson, passed away on 7th August, 2025. He died at the age of only 48 following a year-long battle with cancer. His family declared that he bravely battled cancer for over three years. His family said that at least Blackstock passed away, and at the moment of his death, he was surrounded by his loved ones.
For many, this news is heartbreaking, coming after Clarkson declared her decision to postpone her Las Vegas residency to be with her two children, River and Remington. She stated that the father of her children had fallen ill, and for that, she needs to be fully present there for her children. Meanwhile, she was shielding the people from the hard truth unfolding behind the scenes.
Brandon Blackstock was born on December 16, 1976, in Fort Worth, Texas, and he started his schooling at local schools. Brandon was a famous name in the entertainment industry. The TV producer started his career at Starstruck Entertainment under the guidance of his father, Narvel Blackstock.
Brandon helped to shape the successful careers of many famous musicians, like Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, etc.
In May 2006, Blackstock met Kelly Clarkson for the first time. Clarkson was taking part in the rehearsal for the Academy of Country Music Awards. At that time, Brandon was still married to his ex-wife, Mellisa Ashworth.
Blackstock is also the father of two children from his former marriage, named Savannah and Seth. Blackstock became a grandfather when his elder son gave birth to his grandson, Lake, in 2022.
Brandon and Kelly started dating each other in 2012 and got engaged to each other in December that year. The duo tied the knot in 2013 at the Blackberry Farm in Walland, Tennessee.
In 2014, they welcomed their daughter River Rose and son Remington in 2016. Later, in 2020, Kelly filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. They got divorced in 2022.
According to TMZ, Brandon was battling melanoma. It is a serious form of skin cancer that begins in the cells that provide the skin with its colour. However, melanoma is not a common type of skin cancer, but it is very dangerous if it’s not detected early.
The dangerous part of the disease is that it can spread to other parts of your body if left untreated. Not every mole or dark spot is melanoma. If anything that is changing its size, shape, or colour, it’s worth visiting a medical practitioner.
Melanoma, sometimes, is caused by too much UV exposure. Folks who have a family history of skin cancer are at higher risk. The good part is that if predicted earlier, melanoma is treatable.
