Ramadan Moon Sighting Begins with the Crescent Moon

2 Mins read

Saudi Arabia Ramadan Moon Sighting 2025 Live Updates: For Muslims worldwide, Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is one of the holiest times of the year.

The Muslim community around the world expects a unique moon sighting for the start of Ramadan in 2025. The sighting of the crescent moon in the evening sky will mark the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

Muslims in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait, as well as those in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, will be searching for the crescent moon on the same day for the first time in recent memory.

This is because these nations all started the month of Shabaan on the same day, establishing a single point in time for the onset of Ramadan.

To see the crescent moon, Muslims should observe the evening of Friday, February 28, 2025, according to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and several moon-sighting committees, including those in India, Pakistan, and other nations. This is equivalent to Shabaan 29th, 1446 AH.

2025 on March 1, the first day of Ramadan, a unique celestial phenomenon is scheduled to take place. Only once every 33 years do the Gregorian calendar and the Hijri (Islamic lunar) calendar coincide in this special way.

The Hijri calendar is based on the lunar cycle or phases of the moon, as opposed to the well-known Gregorian calendar, which has 365 (or 366 in a leap year) days and tracks the Earth’s orbit around the sun.

Since the crescent moon is sighted at the start of each Hijri month, the Islamic year is 10–12 days shorter than the solar year. Because of this, the Hijri calendar’s months progressively change with the seasons, finishing a full cycle around every three decades.

But in 2025, the first of Ramadan and March 1 will coincide perfectly due to a remarkable astrological alignment.

The splendour of astronomical accuracy Abu Zahra claims that this unique occurrence demonstrates the extraordinary mathematical accuracy of the moon and Earth’s movements.

Saudi Arabian Muslims’ dates for the Ramadan moon sighting and fast in 2025

On the evening of February 28, 2025, which is equivalent to 29 Sha’ban 1446 AH in the Islamic calendar, Muslims across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will prepare to see the crescent of the holy month of Ramadan.

Muslims around the Kingdom are invited to view the moon with binoculars or another method, even though the Saudi Arabian moon sighting committee typically examines the moon in the days preceding the anticipated start of Ramadan.

The taraweeh prayers will start that evening, and Saudi Arabian Muslims will start fasting on Saturday, March 01, 2025, if the Ramadan crescent moon is visible on Friday night.

In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the holy month of Ramadan will begin on Sunday, March 02, 2025, if the crescent is not on Friday following Maghrib or evening prayers.

In the Kingdom, anyone who witnesses the Ramadan crescent moon with their unaided eyes or with binoculars should report it to the local court and provide a statement there.

If someone sees the Ramadan crescent, they can also get in touch with the closest centre, which will help them get to the closest court to report the sighting.

This unusual alignment has a deeper, even poetic significance that goes beyond its scientific fascination. It serves as a reminder that, like the cycles of life itself, time is both interrelated and constantly changing.

For those who observe Ramadan, this special day provides a chance to consider not just spiritual rejuvenation but also the wonders of the universe that guide our everyday existence.

Enjoy this unique moment of time and tradition as March 1, 2025, and the first day of Ramadan 1446 coincide. It won’t happen again for another 33 years!
