Venus Williams makes historic comeback, announces surprise return US Open

Venus Williams is set to participate in the US Open mixed doubles alongside Reilly Opelka. The US Open mixed doubles championship is scheduled to take place from August 24 to September 7. The Tennis megastar is the latest addition to an already star-infused mixed doubles field.

Multiple big names have already confirmed their participation in the US Open mixed doubles. Some notable pairings include Emma Navarro with Jannik Sinner, Emma Raducanu with Carlos Alcaraz, and others. 

The fans are awaiting to see their favourite players in action. A fresh announcement has proved that WTA legend Venus Williams is joining the lineup. Venus has made a stunning return to singles Tennis on Tuesday. She defeated a fellow American, Peyton Stearns, 6-3, 6-4 in the opening round of the DC Open. The seven-time Grand Slam singles champion confirmed her 819th career WTA singles victory. It is her first tour-level win in almost 2 years. 

Venus is making her grand return to Grand Slam tennis after a recent return to the professional tour.

The two-time US Open singles champion will partner with fellow American Reilly. 

Venus Williams is a dominant force in tennis throughout the 1990s and 2000s alongside her sister, Serena. Venus is now targeting a spot in the mixed doubles draw, which is now offering a 750,000-pound prize pool.

Venus’s grand comeback at the US Open has been the subject of speculation for some time. Venus is scheduled to appear in the Washington Open this week following a 16-month break from the tour. She is competing in both singles and doubles in the upcoming Washington Open.

Regarding her return, Venus said that most of the time she doesn’t take up the offer to play as a wild card. However, at present, he had been hitting the ball. She admitted that she loves the game and the hard courts. She also added that the hard courts are her favourite surfaces and she is comfortable on them. 

Venus said, “I feel, I’ll pay well”. She further added that she is still the same player. She agrees that she is a big hitter and she hits big. 

 Meanwhile, the British star Katie Boulter has also been added to the US Open mixed doubles. She will play alongside fiancé Alex De Minaur for the first time. The couple is set to play alongside each other, but were in confusion whether they would be allowed after missing the primary deadline for application.
