Maha Kumbh Mela Updates: 30 Injured In Stampede-Like Situation At Maha Kumbh INDIA

2 Mins read

During Mauni Amavasya, a stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj harmed several people. Officials stress that despite concerns about casualties, the situation is under control.

Massive masses gathered for the Amrit Snan ceremonial bath when the rush broke out. To guarantee safety at the event, the government has increased surveillance and sent out medical personnel.

During the early hours of the Mauni Amavasya, a stampede-like incident occurred during the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, causing multiple injuries. There are also concerns about casualties.

The event happened close to the Sangam ghat, where the large crowds caused barriers to be broken.

Injured pilgrims were transported to the main hospital on the Mela grounds for treatment as ambulances raced to the scene. Massive crowds congregated near Triveni Sangam’s ghats to take a holy plunge on the occasion, which led to the event.

For the ‘Amrit Snan’ on the festival of Mauni Amavasya, more than 80 to 100 million devotees are anticipated to assemble at the Sangam Ghats.

Akharas to continue the Amrit Snan

Mahakumbh Stampede Ravindra Puri, the president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, announced shortly after the Akharas cancelled the Holy Dip for the day that they would begin their “snan” today and that they are in constant communication with the Mela management.

Puri, in an interview with ANI, “Our snan was postponed in the morning after a massive crowd gathered at the ghats. We tried to postpone our snan.

Now that the crowd has reduced and the ghats meant for our snan are being vacated, so it seems that all Akharas will be able to do snan today… We all, our all Mahamandaleshwars, Mandaleshwars, Naga Sadhus and devotees will take a holy dip today.”

He continued, “Our processions will be carried out as usual according to our tradition but will be at a smaller scale… We are in regular contact with the Mela administration… We have a lot of time and we are in no hurry. We can do snan even at night as it is Mauni Amawashya today.”

The Government’s Reaction and Continued Medical Support

To control the stampede, the Uttar Pradesh government has gathered resources. Specialist physicians were positioned in a super-speciality hospital in the Mela region to manage any emergencies, and more than 1,000 medical personnel were spread out around the Mela grounds.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, is in close communication with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has demanded prompt assistance.

Amit Shah, the home minister, has promised the centre’s complete assistance. Authorities have tightened crowd control procedures in response to the stampede and continuing worries.

Drones and CCTV cameras with AI capabilities have expanded surveillance throughout the Mela grounds, while public announcements are still used to direct pilgrims.

Three hundred specialists work at a super-speciality hospital in Mahakumbh Nagar to treat urgent cases. The most revered Maha Kumbh ritual is Amrit Snan, performed by Mauni Amavasya.

This year, the unique “Triveni Yog,” a heavenly occurrence that only happens once in 144 years, enhances its spiritual significance.

More than 15 crore pilgrims have taken a holy plunge during Maha Kumbh 2025 in the last 17 days.

According to Uttar Pradesh government data, 4.80 crore devotees attended on Tuesday alone, surpassing the 3.5 crore who attended Makar Sankranti’s Amrit Snan. Commencing on 13 January, the Maha Kumbh will conclude on 26 February.
