‘The Goonies 2’ Is Not Happening, Cast Members Confirms by Shutting Down Remours

1 Mins read

Recent claims about a sequel to the 1985 cult classic film titled “The Gonnies: Curse of One-Eyed Willy” were in development, but cast members have definitively shut down those reports.

The Goonies 2

Martha Plimpton, who played Stef in the original movie, took to Instagram to clarify: “People, there is no ‘Goonies 2’ script, there is no one ‘attached,” Spielberg is not directing; it’s real.”

Corey Feldman, who portrayed Mouth, also stated on X (formerly Twitter) that he had “no information” about a sequel being in the works.

The last significant buzz around a potential “Goonies 2” dates back to 2014, when director Richard Donner expressed interest in reuniting the original cast, The cast member Sean Astin said, “The Goonies 2” will happen, adding, “I’m 1000% certain there will be a sequel. I will bet my children on it.”.

However, no sequel ever materialized, and Donner passes away in 2021 at the age of 91.

While the idea of revisiting the beloved story of misfits who go on  atreasure hunt has excited fans for the years, it appears those hopes have been dashed for now.

The cast is now in their late 40s and early 50s and likely would have taken on mentor roles in a sequel, guiding a new generation of Goonies.

With the current rumor debunked, it seems the original 1985 film will remain the sole adventure of Mikey, Mouth, Data, Chunk, and the rest of the beloved characters.

Although a direct sequel seems unlikely, there is ongoing interest in the Goonies franchise. A series titled Our Time was previously reported to be in development, focusing on a group of students creating a shot-for-shot remake of the original film. But the updates on this project have been scarce.

The Goonies 2

“The Goonies,” a cult cast film in 1985, starred Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green and Ke Huy Quan. This film is based on a group of kids who discover an old treasure map and set out to find the fortunes of a legendary pirate named One Eyed Wlly.

A family of criminals persuades them in hopes of sealing the treasure for themselves. The movie was based on a story by Steven Spielberg, who produced the movie.

Given the lack of concrete plans and the original casts denials, a Goonies sequel appears to be more of a nostalgic wish than an impending reality. The fan response to the incorrect report proves the all time high enthusiasm for the sequel.
