Trailer for Epic Death Stranding 2 Reveals the Game’s Release Date, New Gameplay, and Some Intense Metal Gear Vibes

2 Mins read

Death Stranding 2 Trailer Reveals Release Date? Hideo Kojima announced a release date and unveiled an incredible new teaser for Death Stranding 2, On the Beach this evening at SXSW 2025 in Austin, Texas.

Death Stranding 2 will only be available on the PlayStation 5 starting on June 26, 2025. Customers who purchase the Collector’s Edition or the Digital Deluxe Edition, however, will have two days of early access starting on June 24.

A close-up of a guy who many have already said resembles Snake from Kojima’s renowned Metal Gear series is likely the most notable feature in the 10-minute movie below, which also features gameplay snippets and other cinematics.

As Snake does, the character Neil, portrayed by Italian actor Luca Marinelli, is shown donning a bandanna before commanding a group of eerie-looking warriors. The resemblance to Solid Snake is striking.

Maybe it shouldn’t be a huge surprise if Marinelli plays Snake in Death Stranding 2. Kojima lavished the actor with love in a 2020 Instagram post, claiming that he would be a “spitting image” of Solid Snake if he donned a bandanna.

“There are many actors that I follow,” Kojima said at the time. “Luca Marinelli recently caught my eye after watching The Old Guard and Martin Eden. He played an impressive villain in They Call Me Jeeg Robot, but I think that he will break out soon, and his popularity will increase. Also, I think if he donned a bandanna, he’d be a spitting image of Solid Snake!”

The Magellan Man, a massive tar-like creature fused with the DHV Magellan that resembles Metal Gear Rex, is featured in the trailer to carry on the Metal Gear vibes (the Collector’s Edition includes a 15″ statue of the Magellan Man).

The Magellan Man fights off massive and eerie tar creatures while looking like a mech from the Pacific Rim.  As anticipated, the basic version of Death Stranding 2 costs $69.99. In contrast, the Collector’s Edition is $229.99. $79.99 is the price of the Digital Deluxe Edition. March 17 is when pre-orders open.

The tagline for Death Stranding 2, which continues the plot of the game that has amassed over 19 million players worldwide since its November 8, 2019, debut, is ‘Should We Have connected?’

This is the official synopsis: “Embark on an inspiring mission of human connection beyond the UCA. Sam — with companions by his side — sets out on a new journey to save humanity from extinction. Join them as they traverse a world beset by otherworldly enemies, obstacles and a haunting question: should we have connected? Step by step, legendary game creator Hideo Kojima changes the world once again.

Release Death of Death Stranding 2

In the meantime, Kojima revealed The Strands of Harmony World Tour, the Death Stranding concert tour that would take place all over the world.

The performances, which are scheduled to take place in 19 places worldwide, will include music from other artists who participated in the games as well as pieces from Ludvig Forssell’s highly regarded compositions performed by an orchestra and vocalists.

The performances will be accompanied by synchronised HD visual projections that feature scenes from Death Stranding and its follow-up.

The Sydney Opera House will host the premiere on November 8, 2025, which is the sixth anniversary of Death Stranding’s publication.

Kojima and his studio, Kojima Productions, are quite busy right now. A24, the studio behind Academy Award-winning films like Everything Everywhere All At Once, is collaborating with Kojima on a live-action Death Stranding movie in addition to Death Stranding 2.

He is also working on Physint, a video game and movie combination for Sony, and OD for Xbox Game Studios. Neither OD nor Physint have any release dates. It might be a while before we hear or see anything, since Kojima disclosed in January that the current strike by video game actors had impacted the production of both titles.
