Matheus Cunha Set to Join Manchester United in 62.5 Million Euro Deal

2 Mins read

Manchester United are poised to sign Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers after the end of the 2024/2025 Premier League season. The deal is expected to be finalised soon, with United ready to trigger Cunha’s 62.5 million euros release clause.

Cunha, 25, has been a standout player for Wolves since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2022 for around a million. This season, he has scored 17 goals and provided six assists in 34 Premier League appearances, showcasing his ability to both finish and create chances.

The transfer is seen as a major move for Manchester United, who are eager to revitalise their attack under manager Ruben Amorim. Cunha fits perfectly into Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 tactical system, where he is expected to play as one of the two No. 10s behind the central striker. His versatility allows him to operate both centrally and wide, making him an ideal fit for United’s tactical needs.

Gary Neville, former Manchester United defender, has praised Cunha’s style, noting that United have been lacking a player with his ability to travel with the ball and beat opponents in the final third.

Neville emphasised that Cunha’s skill set would suit Amorim’s system well. especially as United have lost key attacking players like Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Antony recently.

Despite interest from other clubs, including Arsenal and Aston Villa, Cunha has expressed a strong desire to join Manchester United. Sources close to the player say Cunha “loves United” and views the club as one of the biggest in the world.

His enthusiasm for joining the Red Devils remains undeterred, even though United currently sit below Wolves in the Premier League table.

Wolves manager Vitor Pereira acknowledged the situation but expressed confidence in Cunha’s commitment to Wolves for the remainder of the season.

Pereira said he had no new information beyond what was publicly known and described Cunha as “happy” at Wolves despite the impending transfer.

The move marks the first significant signing of Ruben Amorim’s tenure at Manchester United. The club hopes Cunha’s arrival will address their attacking struggles, particularly their lack of clinical finishing and creativity, which contributed to a disappointing 16th-place league finish this season.

Cunha is expected to sign a five-year contract with Manchester United, running until June 2030. The club may structure the payments for the transfer to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Although Matheus Cunha’s transfer to Manchester United is nearly complete. The Brazilian forward’s proven Premier League goal-scoring record and tactical versatility make him a key addition to a United squad aiming to rebuild and compete at the highest level under Ruben Amorim. Fans will be eagerly awaiting an official announcement confirming the signing in the coming days.
