The Simpsons Set for New Adventure in E4 After Leaving Channel 4

1 Mins read

The iconic animated series The Simpsons will leave Channel 4 in January 2025 after two decades of transitioning to its new home on E4.

This change is part of a renewed partnership between Channel 4 and Disney Entertainment. It aims to adapt to the evolving landscape of television viewing, particularly among younger audiences.

Since its debut on Channel 4 in 2004, the Simpsons has become a staple of British television airing at 6:30 PM, a prime time slot.

Polly Scates, Head of Acquisitions at Channel 4, expressed her excitement about the move, stating, “The Simpsons and Channel 4 have a historic relationship; it’s been a pleasure working with Disney Entertainment to bring the latest season to UK viewers.”.

Under the new agreement, The Simpsons will continue to premiere new episodes on Disney+, starting with Season 23 in spring 2024. However, following their initial release on the streaming platforms, episodes will air on E4 before becoming available for limited-time streaming on Channel 4’s platform.

Disney Executive Dayna Donaldson highlighted the enduring appeal of The Simpsons, remarking that it “stands the test of time” and remains one of the most beloved families in popular culture. The collaboration aims to introduce The Simpsons to new generations while continuing to entertain long-time fans.

The transition marks a significant shift for the series, which has been synonymous with Channel 4 for many viewers. The show first premiered in the UK in 1990 on Sky On before moving to BBC channels and ultimately landing on Channel 4.

The move to E4 signifies not only a change in broadcasting but also reflects broader trends in media consumption as audiences increasingly turn to streaming services for their entertainment needs.

Fans of the Simpsons have expressed mixed feelings about this change on social media. Some are excited about the new episodes on E4; others lament the end of an era with its departure from Channel 4.

Despite these sentiments, the show’s legacy as a cultural touchstone remains intact, and its move is expected to rejuvenate its audience engagement.

As The Simpsons embark on this new chapter, it continues to hold its place as the longest-running primetime scripted show in television history.

With plans for the future and continued availability through various platforms, the beloved animated family from Springfield is poised to entertain audiences for years to come.
