Tory Lanez runs to hospital after prison assault in California, officials report

Rapper Tory Lanez, who is currently on a 10-year sentence for shooting hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion in the feet, was hospitalised Monday after being attacked in a California prison, officials say.
Rapper Tory Lanez was stabbed fourteen times in a California prison and was taken to the hospital.

In a housing unit at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, some 75 miles (120 km) North of Los Angeles, the Canadian hip-hop artist was attacked by another prisoner on Tuesday morning, according to prison officials who spoke to the BBC.

Following a post on his Instagram, the 32-year-old rapper received injuries all over his body, which caused his two lungs to collapse.

Lanez, whose actual name is Daystar Peterson, shot fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion in 2020 at a party and is now serving a 10-year prison term.

Based on the celebrity’s Instagram update, he was stabbed in the face, head, stomach, and back. Based on the Instagram update, he can now breathe on his own after being temporarily placed on a breathing apparatus.

“Despite being in pain, he is speaking normally, in good spirits, and deeply grateful to God that he is coming through,” the update stated.

The state prisons department’s Pedro Calderón Michel said the assault took place around 07:20 local time (15:20 GMT).

Staff gave him first aid before Lanez was rushed to a nearby hospital for further treatment, he explained.

The stabbing is under investigation, Mr. Calderón Michel explained to the BBC. As for the motive of the attacker, he remained mum.

Lanez was sentenced in 2003 for three firearm felonies, including assault with a semi-automatic weapon, in 2024. He was exiting a pool party at reality TV star Kylie Jenner’s house in Hollywood when he shot Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete.

Megan Thee Stallion ga e evidence at the trial that the two fought over their previous sexual encounter and profession within a car.

In her account, Lanez started shooting at the ground and screaming at her to “dance” when she persisted that she be allowed out of the car. To have bullet fragments surgically removed from her foot, she required surgery. Lanez maintained his innocence regarding the encounter and refused to offer an apology.

Rappers such as 50 Cent and Iggy Azalea appeared to side with one party in the controversy, splitting the hip-hop community.

Some of them sent letters to court asking for leniency of Lanez’s sentence. Between his imprisonment and the previous seven years, Lanez has seven albums that went into the top 10 US.
